Does it benefit my iPhone 7 to shut it off

I used to shut off my iPhone 5s every night and turn it back on in the morning. Now I have an iPhone 7, and people are telling me that’s not necessary, just turn it on to night mode if I don’t want to be disturbed. Does it do anything positive for my iPhone, to shut it off periodically or on a regular basis?

I agree with sberman. In my case, I almost NEVER turn my phone off. I use it during the day and it has programmed Do Not Disturn automaticall on while I sleep. And while I sleep, my phone is on the charger all night long. I've never experienced premature degradation of any iPhone battery in all these years going all the way back to iPhone 3g.

My 'new' iphone 7 is actually a hand-down from my g'daughter, lol. Under Battery Health" it shows 72%, with a note saying it's health is significantly degraded. I don't mind re-charging often, but I want the battery to live awhile, till I can get a truly new phone hopefully within the next year. Would shutting it off for the night help? Or is it better for the battery to be used and recharged. Thanks for your help!
