500 Internal Server Error

I can't access some sites because "500 Internal Server Error" appears. The problem is not with the website because on another computer it works normally.

The mac is updated.

What can I do?

Thank you.

Hi, Rafaela!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble accessing websites on your MacBook Air. I'm happy to help!

Based on the error you receive, I'd suggest troubleshooting the web browser you're using. If you're using Safari, the steps and information in If you can’t open a website in Safari on Mac - Apple Support and Safari troubleshooting on Mac - Apple Support should be helpful.

If you're using a browser other than Safari (like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox), see if the site opens in Safari. If it does, the issue is with the other web browser and you'll want to reach out to Google or Mozilla for additional help. If the issue does occur in Safari as well as other browsers, try the following:

  1. Force quit open apps: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support then restart your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support.
  2. See if the issue continues in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support.
  3. Try to duplicate the issue in a new, test user: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support.

Reboot your router, and reboot your Mac, as a first step. I’d hope that the router would not effect just one host, but weirder things have happened with Wi-Fi.

Then...

Have any add-on anti-malware apps, add-on anti-virus apps, add-on cleaning apps, an add-on firewall apps, or add-on VPN client apps been installed? Those have caused issues with network connectivity, and an HTTP 500 error is usually a web server error, which in this context would imply an issue with interception arising on your system. If you have any of those apps installed, Safe Mode to test, and then follow the vendors’ instructions around removal, then reboot.
