Apple Messenger no longer sends attachments

I am running Catalina 10.15.3 on an iMAC. Until recently, I could open Messenger, type a text note and drag a graphic (screenshot, jpg file) into the text window and send to an iPhone user with no issues.

Now , they get a message saying that image cannot be downloaded. Then I will see an alert on my end that says that the system is waiting for the user to download the graphic.

Basically the message and graphic attachment will not send.

Help!

I have attached screen shot from Messenger when I click on the info icon of a message that shows not sending.

From another thread:

I used GO/Go To Folder and hold down option key when clicking on Go To Folder and entered ~/Library/

Then I looked for folder for Messages

I drug to the desktop (just in case) files with .db in the file type. Only .db Not other content with db in the extension.

I had 3 files - chat.importbackup.db - prewarm.db - chat.db

Then I shut down and restarted.

I checked the Messages files in Library and verified that the 3 files had been rebuilt.

I launched Messages and I can now send graphics.

WARNING - You will lose history of Messages with this approach.

I thought about dragging back one at a time the original files but decided to leave the system working properly and move on.

Hi there, Dan.

I see that, when you send an attachment to an iPhone user, it shows that they're waiting to accept the attachment, but they get a message that it can't be downloaded. I'm glad to help with this.

Try sending an attachment to another iPhone user to see if they can download them. Also, make sure you can accept an attachment from another user. Let me know the results when you're able.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac -- If the issues persists, restart your Mac in safe mode and test how it responds. If it works while in safe mode, reboot normally and test again in your own user account. If not, continue to "How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac" below.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac -- If the issue is also happening in safe mode, use this article to create and test a new administrative user account. This will demonstrate if the issue is isolated to your account, or if it's system wide. You'll need to activate Messages on this new admin user account.

Let me know how that goes, and take care!

I tried the safe mode as well.

When I send from the iMAC, the message is delivered to my iMAC Messages OK.

The same problem occurs to all iPhone users. The iphone screen has a grey circle and below in blue Downloading name of file and then 0 bytes/138kb. But never delivered.

So in summary, regardless of safe mode or not, this problem occurs:

I cannot send a graphic to ANY iPhone Recipient.

I can receive graphics from any iPhone Sender.
