How to reduce loud bass boosted sound in video with Imovie?

I wanted to increase the overall sound of my video using Imovie, by increasing the volume to the highest level a couple of times in Imovie. However, after I repeated the same step a couple of times, the overall sound became more bass boosted and much louder than I expected it to be.

And since I deleted the original audio due to my Icloud storage being full, I cannot retrieve the original audio and amend any changes to the video.

So I was wondering as to whether if there is any way to revert the sound quality of the video back to its original audio using Imovie. If not, is there any way to minimise the bass boosted sound so my video can sound a lot quieter and natural.

Hi, ramazan185,

The first thing you can try is to do a repeated Edit/Undo to see if you can work back to your audio edits. This might not work if you have closed the project, but it is worth a try.

If it doesn't work, you might try opening the iMovie Backups folder to revert to an earlier version of your project before you made the changes to the audio clip. To get to the Backups folder go to the Finder menu and follow this file path:

Go/Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data/Library/Caches/iMovieBackups

When you get there you will see a list of previous back-ups of your iMovie library. Click on one that is dated just before you made the changes to the audio. iMovie will open in that library. Navigate to your project and see if your audio is as it was before the changes.

If still no luck, you can use the Noise Reduction/Equalizer tool in the tool bar in the upper right of your screen and select Bass Reduce from the drop down menu options.

Hi, ramazan 185,

I hadn't realized that you created the project initially on your iPhone. That makes it tough.

You might need to try an audio app, like the free download Audacity, and see if you can tinker with the sound clip there. There are other audio apps out there as well. There are many listed in the app store. I have heard of Sound Studio, though have not tried it myself.

You might also try posting on the iPhone forum and see if anyone has any suggestions. You can Google it to find the iPhone forum.

Another thing you can do is to contact Apple Support and talk to the very savvy tech persons there. You can do that by clicking on the Contact Support item in the upper right hand corner of this forum's screen and navigating to a phone number for your iPhone device.

At this point I don't have any more ideas. I wish you the best of luck with this.

Hello Rich. Thank you for taking your time to reply.

The last time that this with the original audio was yesterday on my iPhone, and I had to delete the original audio since I had no Icloud storage available. Furthermore, I edited my video using Imovie on my iOS device which I first started with the original audio. However, I only moved to Mac today with the already loud bass boosted sound. So I don't think I can retrieve my original file through the backup on my Imovie in the Mac.

I also reseted my iPhone using a latest backup, which did not contain the original clips with the original audio. And I've been searching for the clips through my Itunes and Icloud backup on my Mac with no result.

I did the following above, and the bass boosted sound is there, there doesn't seem to be any drastic change apart from the overall audio sounding a lot lower and more muffled. So therefore, I do not know as to what do to next.
