ICLOUD download is extremely annoying- zip files now ?

I have been trying for almost a week to download some of my Icloud pictures. Even if I go one by one they go into a zip file. I read that it is to make the download easier. It is definitely not easier. Is there a way for God's sake to download the pictures in the Cloud easier? I pay monthly for 2 T , and not only is this happening , but after my update to IOS 13.3.1 in my iphone X I lost 30,000 and some thousand pictures on my iphone. I can see some in Icloud , but they have disappeared on my Iphone. This is the reason I am trying to download them from the Cloud, but it is I M P O S S I B L E. Will Apple do something at some point to fix this? I don't think it is fair that I pay every month for the convenience to have the pictures stored only to make it virtually impossible to download them to a PC. Horrible,. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

Hello Honey4ever,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that you want to download your photos from iCloud and store them on your PC; I'd like to help.

The following support article provides some steps for this process:

Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support

If you haven't already, you may also want to download and install iCloud for Windows:

Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

I will have to try again. I have I cloud for windows but it hasnt helped much. I have to find a step by step guide to see if it is my computer or me that gets to a point that I already can’t think. After I did the latest update I lost almost all my pictures on my iPhone. I see the 51,000 I have on iCloud ( yes I know it’s a lot ) but I only have 17,000 on iPhone and that’s why I have been trying to download the whole library. I don’t trust technology so much as to not to try to keep a second copy of almost 6 years of pictures.

if you have a step by step guide to use iCloud for windows I would immensely appreciate it

thank you !!
