Pairing apple warch

I've been trying to pairing my watch to a different phone. I've made a dozen attempts and it continues to do the same thing. I start the pairing process. My phone says the watch needs an update and I start that process. After about 3 minutes of the update my phone says unpairing watch, this may take a few minutes. Then it goes back to the start pairing screen. There is no other screen available to go into settings. I've restarted both devices as well...any ideas on what else I can try?
