New SSD Startup Issues Only After Restart

Howdy all. I just pulled 3 raided HD's out of my Mid 2010 Mac Pro and put in a 1TB SSD. I was able to install El Capitan and then Sierra, but it's acting weird. Whenever I install an update and it goes to restart, it comes up to the Circle with a line through it. It also does this if I simply hit restart on the machine. However, if I shut it down completely and turn it back on, it boots into the OS fine.

Any ideas?

I will try Safe Mode and see what happens. Is there any reason this would only happen on a restart cycle and not when the computer is powered off and then powered on?

Circle with a line "Prohibitory sign" says: This boot disk looked bootable, but when I went to boot from it, a major component of MacOS was found damaged or wrong version.

I suggest you restart in Safe mode (which will run a five minute Disk Repair as it starts up. Then Restart in regular mode, which (after Safe mode) will rebuild the kernel extensions caches and a few others, so it will take longer than usual [ONCE].

You might be able to instrument this up and determine why it is happening, but it would be a lot of work and require many developer tools and reading through seemingly-endless logs, looking for exactly what might be out of whack.

This may be a one-off problem. What may be happening is the Directory may have some minor damage that keeps certain files from being read correctly (fixed by Disk repair in Safe Mode) or the extensions cache needs to be re-built (fixed during the first restart AFTER Safe mode).

Try the suggestion, and if it solves the problem, you are done in about a quarter hour.

What all 3rd party extensions are you running?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Or use the paperclip at the bottom of a Reply to attach the full report here. :)

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

A Re-Install in place, right over the existing version, is intended not to disturb your files or added Applications. it does not bulk-erase anything outside of System directories.

However, if your drive is frail, replacing over 350,000 files that are MacOS could push your drive over the edge. It is always better to have a backup before you begin.

Ok, so it won't even restart in Safe Mode. The gray bar gets to about 60% and goes to the prohibitory sign. I booted up regular from an off state and did a disk repair, and restarted into attempted safe mode and no go.
