I Phone 7

I recently purchased an I phone 7 through EBay which has crashed and was then able to be restored only to crash again the same day !! I am able to return to the seller for a repair but they have asked that I remove the phone from my Apple ID or they will need a password - I am unable to switch the phone on but have removed it from my account using my IPad - will this then leave this I phone safe from accessing any of my details ? Many thanks

They asked you to remove the device from your Apple ID account so that they can perform the repairs (if necessary) and then be able to check the repairs by activating it. For activation purposes, it cannot be on an Apple ID device list because if it is then either they need to know the Apple ID and Password OR have the last user remove it from their device list. They have therefore asked you to do the latter.

Now what about your data that is already on that iPhone? You must have set up a passcode to lock/unlock the iPhone. If you did then your data is protected. Do not give them the passcode. What they will end up doing is resetting the passcode and will have to delete all of the data to examine and test the iPhone.

For disassociating the device from your AppleID in 'phone-less' mode, visit AppleID Central in a safe computer: https://appleid.apple.com

Once there, locate it in your Devices list and remove from account.

If the phone can start, you have a backup and/or its contents are not indispensable, sign out from AppleID in it, go to Settings / General / Reset and do an erase all contents and settings to protect your data.
