Mail is non-responsive after saving attachments and requires Force Quit. Doesn't happen all the time but enough that it has become very annoying. I think it started after Catalina update from Mojave with latest iMac. Thanks, Apple.

If it doesn't happen often, that makes it difficult to sort out.
You can boot into Safe Mode to see if it is being caused by some system modification you have installed, but you probably couldn't stand working in Safe Mode long enough to see if the problem repeats itself.
I've never noticed a problem on my Macs.
Is there any consistency in the type of attachment?
