Apple Watch 3 passcode problem

I'm unable to unlock my watch. Have owned for a couple of years and have never had an issue. When I key in a code, 4 different numbers appear. For example, if I key in 3456, 9012 is what appears. I didn’t realize this was happening at first and was locked out. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any fixes? I shut phone off and restarted but no luck.
