Playing mp3 in Finder

I recently noticed that the "play" icon for mp3’s saved on my Desktop (late-iMac 2015, Catalina 10.15.2),does not appear when I hover over it with the cursor. As such, I have to highlight the file and press the spacebar or double-click the file and open it in iTunes.

I have restarted the iMac both normally and in Safe Mode (per Apple Chat Support) multiple times and nothing has changed. I have changed the view in Finder from (grid, icon, list) and nothing changed. I have changed the View size from smallest to largest and no change as well.

Why would this feature just disappear?

With the default opening entity for .mp3 set to Music, passing the pointer over an .mp3 in the (active) Finder — reveals the play indicator, clicking on that will play the audio, and clicking again will stop the audio. You must click the Desktop, or current folder, before the pointer will reveal the play indicator. Working properly for me.

What I have described above is a default clean install of Catalina 10.15.3.
