Apple pencil doesn’t work on strip across iPad screen

For some reason my Apple Pencil won’t work properly on a strip (in fact 2 strips close together!) right across the middle of the screen. Have updated software and restarted to no avail. It means when I write on any app it looks like the picture attached. Any bright ideas?

Apple Pencil not working My apple pencil suddenly stopped working, it will connect for a second then disconnect when i try to use it. Apple Pencil not working My Apple Pencil stops working while multitasking and I have to then restart my iPad and then it starts working.
