My ipod will not connect to the cloud.

I recently purchased a refurbished ipod nano 7th generation. I can upload some songs from Itunes but i am unable to connect to the cloud and get any other music. When the ipod is plugged in, it does not show an Apple device but say SDR in drive D. Is there a way to put Apple firmware back onto this and reset the device?

We're going to turn this machine into a server once my new Mac Mini and 13" Macbook Pro arrive. Thanks for any help with this issue.

No model of iPod nano supports cloud based music in any way.
