ma.com email account password

Set up my @mac.com email account over a decade ago, probably before there were apple id's., (been using mac's since 1985 in both personal and my former company). My Apple id is the same name as my email account but it appears that my Apple id password is not my email password. Since selling my business I cannot remember the password for the mac.com email account. I know my password for Apple id. How do I either recover my email account password, or reset it without screwing up my email account access?

When I retired I lost the saved document with all of this info.

Please help.

You are very welcome. And, I am sure Steve is getting a chuckle.

I could not understand what exactly you had done with your password over the years originally for sure. Yes, I am implying what you said. Go here https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin and see if you can sign in sequentially using both of your name@mac.com and name@iCloud.com email addresses as usernames and your current password.

You story is like mine, and your Apple ID password should be the same whether you use mac.com, me.com, or iCloud.com. My "official" Apple ID email ends in mac.com. Your original one probably does two. And, you probably have email aliases ending in me.com and iCloud.com. Whatever the case, you Apple ID password should be the same. But, still, see this read about forgetting your password: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

Thanks.

I can access my mac.com email and can access my iCloud account via my Apple ID. Since transferring over the years from one iMac or MacBook to another, with my mac.com email I have never had any problems but I never had to even think about any password. Now when I open my iCloud account I use the Apple ID current password, which I have changed many times. Are you implying when I changed my Apple ID and by default, and thus my iCloud password, I also changed my mac.com email password to the same?

Thanks a lot for your help. It really feels funny asking for help with computer issues and especially mac issues. I began my computer history in the 60's getting several engineering degrees, programming millions of lines of code for over 50 years and here I am retired and seemingly starting all over. Steve must be laughing.

Thanks. Was able to sign in to iCloud via both email addresses with the same password. This seems to prove that the one password works as the password for these email accounts as well as being my apple id password. Now the proof of the pudding is if can set up my email account as the one another program can use for back notifications for errors. This is what I have been trying to do earlier.

Thanks again

You are very welcome. And, you know one is an alias, right? If you want to know which is real and which is Memorex, sign in again here again. https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin Then, click on Account/edit. Look at the area called Reachable at, and hover over the question marks where you see email address. Viola, you will see which is the real deal and which is an alias. I am betting you have two aliases, name@me.com and name@iCloud.com. This would happen if you had a moble.me account as of a certain date that I can't remember. If not, I'm sure iCloud.com is your alias. Not that knowing which is which will help you in a significant way. I am hoping the rest of you plan works.
