iPad Pro 11” keyboard emoji key

How do I kill, or render useless, the emoji key on the Ipod Pro keyboard? That’s without taking a knife to it and ripping it out. This is the key in the far lower left that has a wireframe sphere on it.

There’s no option to disable the keyboard selection, though you can remove all but the language keyboard that you’re using.

Whilst the “key” is not assignable, if using recent versions of iPadOS/iOS 13.x, you can disable Memoji/Emoji functionality at a system level.

To disable, update your settings, in this sequence:

  • Settings > General > Keyboards > Memoji Stickers - set to OFF
  • Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards - select Edit, then delete “Emoji”

I hope your find this to be helpful in resolving your issue.

I don't have a daily need to rotate between languages, and I am old school about emoji’s, typed and naked to the world. Would it not be cooler to just have the key be assignable to do what you want it to do. Like be a second shift key for the clumsy typist, or have it call up a workflow or other useful function that I would find useful on a daily bases.

FEATURE REQUEST - Make the emoji key on the iPad Pro 11” keyboard assignable to any standard keyboard key or to a system function.
