Switching carriers with Apple Watch 5

I am looking to switch from AT&T to T-Mobile. T-Mobile told me they didn't think it was possible to move my watch over from one carrier to another. Is this true or are they just trying to force me to buy a new watch?

A U.S. Carriers use the identically same model Apple Watch.


You can check model numbers used by each carrier on this webpage

iPhone Cellular Carriers that support the Apple Watch, which models, the radio frequencies each model uses, and the country where they offer service:
