Placing music application on home network external drive

In the past, I had my entire itunes library sitting on my home network drive since it is larger than my hard drive. Can I do the same with the latest version of music that came with Catalina?

I tried this once. I was able to point the music to the directory and it worked--but I could not add any new music. It just placed the newly added songs to my local computer. Was this just a permissions error on my network drive?

Press and hold down option as you launch Music to choose where to create your library, or reconnect to a library that you've moved, or has been migrated from iTunes. If opening an iTunes library you can choose where the converted library is saved.
