Battery replacement- what is cost and how long does it take?

I need my battery replaced on my MacBook Air as it won’t charge anymore and comes up with the service battery notification. Anyone had experience (in the UK) getting a battery replaced at an Apple Store or Apple authorised service provider? How long does it take? Can it be done in store or does it have to get sent away? Also, a rough cost?
