Safari Would Not Connect

How can you stop searchmaster? Don't suggest downloading Malwarebytes! After trying it, my Safari (and Chrome) browsers would not connect to the internet. I uninstalled Malwarebytes, but that didn't work. After running diagnostics, one suggestion was to uncheck the web proxy HTTP from list of protocols. (System preferences, Network, wifi, advanced, proxies tab). That did not work.

After thinking about It I remembered seeing another proxy checked. Went back and unchecked Socks, then clicked OK. Thankfully, that fixed it and my browsers connected. I don't know if Malwarebytes caused this or it was because they quaranteed something (ADWARE, etc.) that caused this.

It wasn't MWB that caused it.

In Sys Prefs, do you see a Profiles Pref Pane, try trash ing those.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Or use the paperclip at the bottom of a Reply to attach the full report here. :)

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

Thanks. Maybe Malwarebytes did solve the problem, as I am not seeing Searchmaster back. Perhaps the SOCKS proxy which prevented the browsers from working, was part of Searchmaster and couldn't work since Malwarebytes had quaranteed everything else? I am keeping your info. handy because I have a feeling Searchmaster will be back on this old computer (2011). Anyway, I have ordered a new Mac Book Air! I hope the update will be more able to block browser hijacks! Thanks again for your suggestions.
