Safari can't connect to the server since I downloaded Malwarebytes

I had the problem others have experienced, which was every time I ran a Google search it redirected to Bing. As advised in a link I downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes. Now I cannot connect to the internet at all! Fortunately I have another MacBook to work on. As my old MacBook Air dates back to 2014 I cannot get any help from Apple. Any advice?

Also... Along with the Above Be Sure to Report this as a Bug to Apple:

Inform Apple of this bug. They will not get back to directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed. Their developers will look into it, and will more likely create a fix for it in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - Safari - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "feedback type"
  3. Proceed from there as necessary.

Many thanks to TheLittles. l have just got off a very long (probably two hour) call with Apple Support who have fixed the problem. I did uninstall Malwarebytes but, although I appeared to have an internet connection, couldn't connect with any websites.

As I couldn't connect via the internet we had to communicate by telephone and camera, which made the whole process more burdensome. I take my hat off to the helpline expert who was amazingly patient!

I'm still not sure how we fixed it, but he sent some helpful information at the end of the call: How to use network locations on your Mac which I would recommend for anyone with a similar problem.

The part that seemed to fix the problem was "How to add or remove a network location" which is contained in the above mentioned hyperlink How to use network locations on your Mac. I'm not technically-minded, so I'm afraid I can't explain it.

Some Thoughts:

I don’t know what they use the word “location”, but it’s probably because the word “profile” (which is what this is - a compiled group of settings) is already used by Apple for something else in the macOS. It’s not so much a physical location.

So, whatever the location setting was, it was interfering with how it could have been: no self-configurations. Pretty much it was stuck with a group of preferences all compiled into one - you would use it for configurations depending where you are (i.e. a coffee shop). Whenever you go to the coffee shop, it would use the profile.

So with no profiles (I presume), all now goes to default (without any settings put-forth).

I hope that clearly explains it for you.

Ridding if the profile(s) fixed it - now everything is set to default.

Glad it is now fixed.
