How do I remove an email address that is autofilled in Recents

When I try to send an email, I type the first letter and autofill suggests a bunch of email addresses. The first problem is that it puts so many suggestions before I get to the one I use the most, that I have to scroll down each time. I like autofill suggestions for email addresses, but I'm sure this can be rectified. I have read the instructions saying to tap the "i" (information) icon next to the email address (or the blue dot) and it will take me to the contact and at the bottom you can tap "remove from recents". That was fine for some, however, many of the suggested autofill email addresses DO NOT HAVE AN "I" ICON OR A BLUE DOT, so I can't get to any page to remove from recents. Bottom line, how do I remove from recents if the address does not have an "i" icon or a blue dot? As a backup, is there a way I can change the order of recents (or suggested) email addresses shown so that I can have the most useful one on top and not have to scroll down? Thanks very much.
