Email

I got an email saying my account was locked for “security reason” and that i needed to log into my account to verify. However when i started to fill stuff out... it asked for my social security number so i just stopped cause i don’t recall ever using my ss# for anything in Apple. Is this a scammer? Or is my account really locked.

And, if you are worried that you Apple ID has been compromised, see: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204145 If

your iCloud account has been compromised, then so has your Apple ID.

Apple can disable an account for security reasons: Apple ID- "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears.


However, you may likely be getting a scam attempt:


About Email and Other Scams


Apple always addresses you by your name or the name they have on file for you.  The Email will be from apple.com or itunes.com. Email addresses can be spoofed. You can go to Mail > View > Message > Show all Headers to see more. Apple Emails will never contain an attachment. Apple will never request personal information such as Social Security numbers.


An exception to the above is when you order something from the Apple Store. The receipt will be addressed to Dear Apple Customer.
