battery gets son hot can't keep it on my lap

It's a notebook computer, not a laptop. Use it on a hard, flat surface like a desk. Raise the rear 3/4" to 1" to improve air circulation. Check your battery's condition: Open System Information and click on the Power entry in the left side list.
