I have added many outlook.com accounts to Mail without problems just by using the Add Account dialog and typing in email address then password. Same way you add google or yahoo accounts.
How are you doing it?
Outlook app (not the one in Office) is free. Not as good as Mail but free.

everything i do it just says unable to verify account name and password
Top Guy!, cheers for the help that got it!, I have two factor authentication on every account I have online, and no where else online did it mention about two factor authentication blocking the account from logging in.
Mail is not very helpful with the simple rejection message. I hope you succeed creating the app specific password. I just never initiated 2FA which is the easier option!
Similar problem using iCloud on non Apple devices.
it work fine with the app specific password, I have my throw away account for tasks you need an email account for and tasks I really don't care about etc, that uses hotmail which obviously uses exchange to log-in so i could not understand why it was not working when the password on the outlook account was correct, when the second account has always just logged in on every mail app without trouble.
whatever way of adding an account i use in the mail app i use, It does not recognise the login credentials even though they are correct.
Do you have two factor authentication turned on in your Microsoft account?
I must apologise. Outlook mail app is free on iPhone but is part of Office 365 on Mac which is not free. The iPhone one is a simple client, the Mac one is the big beast by the look of it.
