Airplane mode for sleep apps

I was using airplane mode when in bed to use a sleep app.

I just updated to 13.3.1 and now airplane mode keeps connection to WiFi etc activated, so I can no longer sleep with it by my head, as it doesn’t shut off any radiation / EMFs etc ...

What’s everyone doing for this ? I can’t see any advice on google, except presumably to buy a friggin alarm clock ... Is there a way that I don’t know about of shutting the device down from waves without turning it off ? I’m guessing not, but worth an ask ...

The apps don’t work if you turn the phone off.

This feels really important and I’m surprised I can’t see anything online about it, as a lot of people use their phones for their alarm.

If you are concerned about non-ionizing radiation you should destroy your cell phone and move to a rural area that has no power lines and no cell phone service. And also no radio stations close enough to hear there signal. Doing anything less than that is trying to kill all insect life by swatting an occasional fly.

If you put the phone in Airplane mode and verify that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off (they can be on in Airplane mode) you can prevent the phone from emitting anything, but clearly you are still within range of cellular radio signals, and apparently you haven’t turned off your home Wi-Fi either. Another option is to buy a $10 wind-up alarm clock and turn the phone off completely. But make sure it is wind-up and doesn’t have a battery in it.

I guess it will turn off the WiFi, but still be receiving the telephone mast signal, so the phone will still be transmitting waves ?? I believe when the phone is in a place where it’s obscured from signal (eg. under a pillow !) it actually increases its frequency of wave output (I’m not knowledgeable on this, but have read) to detect/receive the signal.

So it doesn’t solve the problem, altho it’s a great idea.

Appreciated.

KMCGK,

Which iPhone are you using? You said that you are using iOS 13 however your profile suggests an iPhone 6.

Regardless of the above, Airplane mode is designed to be turned ON and if the user wished then the user can maintain Airplane mode AND then turn on BlueTooth and/or WiFi as well. The idea behind this is that if you are traveling on an Airplane then you are required to turn on AirPlane mode however by turning on Bluetooth you can still connect to your headphones and/or turning ON WiFI will allow you to connect to the AirPlane's provided WiFi Network. This is why one has choices to use AirPlane mode with select service(s) still remaining ON or Cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth all being OFF.

Having said all that above, for your case, open up control center and select AirPlane Mode. Ensure that the 3 other buttons in that square are OFF. Once you do then then every time you turn ON AirPlane mode then everything else will be OFF.

More information on the Control Center is HERE.
