I have downloaded avast because that was the most recommended malware for Mac, and it cleared out most of my viruses I think but the anysearch engine is still there. any help? same problem with chrome but I manage to delete chrome so.

If Safari's home page is stuck

In some cases, after being changed by adware or malware, Safari's home page can become stuck. You will be able to edit the Homepage field in Safari's preferences, but the change will not stick. This appears to be a bug, and there is an odd workaround. Try this:

1. In Safari, choose Preferences from the Safari menu.

2. In the window that opens, click the General icon (if necessary)

3. Enter your desired home page in the "Homepage" field, but DO NOT press return!

4. At the top of the window, click any of the other icons (eg, Tabs, AutoFill, etc).

5. You may see a prompt asking for confirmation for changing the home page. If so, confirm.

6. Switch back to the General page and check to make sure the home page has been changed.

Uninstall Avast --- there are No Viruses for Macs.

Contact the developer (Avast) to find the Uninstaller. Drag the Application Icon to the Trash, and application caches will still reside within your Mac. Security Software just gets in the way on the Mac. Firewall settings disallow playing movies on iTunes.

Reinstall the MacOS.

The ultimate solution would be to erase the installation then reinstall it. If there is no concern of data loss, reinstall the macOS. You would contact the developers of your installed software, for a license renewal due to a new format. Be sure to create a Catalina USB Bootable Installer prior to the reinstallation. It is what you would install your macOS from upon the new installation. Moreover, be sure to create a Time Machine Backup prior to this reinstallation, that way you have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the installation:

So, Follow these Steps:

  1. Create: a Time Machine Backup for data recovery
  2. Boot: into Recovery Mode, Holding Down [command + R" upon boot
  3. Format: your Hard Drive in APFS Format
  4. Install: from a Catalina USB Bootable Installer
  5. Restore Files: from your Time Machine Backup
