High-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP)

I have a Sony Bravia TV connected to my Apple TV 4th gen and I use AirPlay regularly to stream Canadian TV channels. Several of these streaming apps (owned by Bell Media) require that the TV be HDCP compliant in order to stream content. I am able to stream content directly from my IPad to the Sony Bravia TV, which is HDCP 1.4 compliant, but I am unable to use airplay from the IPad through the Apple TV 4th gen. The CTV App, for example, tells me my setup is not HDCP compliant. However, the App does allow AirPlay. Can someone please tell me why the Apple TV is not HDCP compliant? Many thanks.

All content and devices requires HDCP in order to stream as that is a form of copy protection that is needed in order to playback commercial content.

If that message appears on a TV that supports HDCP then it means there is an issue with the connection. Make sure the HDMI cable is secure, try another cable and port.

The CTV app is also available directly on the Apple TV as are other networks.

think its with airplay

and not sure there is a workaround

if a person attempt to airplay from a mac playing a dvd you just get checkers on the appletv the cause of this is that airplay breaks the DRM encryption of the optical media, one could only assume the same holds true for other hdcp drm protected materials

I would contact the ball media folk to inquire as if that is the case and maybe check if they have an appletv app as then airplay would not be a factor
