I do not want apple to update my settings because I’ve just had a long winded problem with Wildlife Photographic Magazine. I couldn’t access the magazine as apple had changed my iPads ID number and that is what the magazine uses to verify payment. I don’t want all those problems again. Can anybody tell me if updating settings will alter my iPads ID number again.

Then you should reach to Apple Support directly for assistance. I've never heard of Apple changing iPad ID numbers.

Might do that, don’t want all that aggravation again. Doubt I’ll get a sensible answer though, WPM didn’t!
Precisely that. According to the WP Magazine a very small percentage of their subscribers have had their device ID number changed by Apple. The magazine uses the ID number to verify if the subscription has been paid. I discovered this when I tried to download latest issue but it said I needed to subscribe. On asking WPM they eventually discovered why I and a few others couldn’t download despite having a current subscription.
