File transfer over network cripples computer performance

Hi.

I've been doing large file transfers for work over a wired LAN network connection to a Mac Mini in the server room. The file transfer has been going at around 10 megabytes per second, Activity Monitor shows 50 megabytes per second of network usage.

Once I start a file transfer, I basically can't use this machine to do anything else until the file transfer has been complete. Is this normal? None of my other devices act like this with file transfers, including my Windows 10 PC and 16" Macbook Pro.

This iMac is a 2014 i5 3.5ghz Quad Core model with 32GB DDR3 ram.

Activity Monitor shows that neither the CPU, SSD, Network or Ram is bottlenecking or even close to being at capacity, so I'm unsure as to what's going on here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Rob

Rob,

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.
