Q: car mount for iPhone 11 (case or accessory)
I've been using my iPhone 6s with a magnetic-compatible case and a vent-attached magnetic mount. I will shortly be buying an 11, most likely the 11 Pro Max, and of course will need to update all this.
However, from what I've read, Apple recommends against magnetic accessories for the 11 models, so I think I'm going to have to go in a different direction.
I think I'd still like a vent mount, but one problem is that my car's center vents are vertically slim--very wide but only about 2" high. The mount I've been using is just fine for that (attaches to one of the horizontal fins and very rarely pops out from bumps) but some mounts are made with vertically-oriented vents.
I definitely don't want a cupholder mount--the vent mount pretty much maintains line-of-sight for phone navigation, while a cupholder would be all the way down and too close to me. I'd prefer not to have a dash mount: the suction cups don't stick (dash is textured) and I don't want to put an adhesive mount on it. And with the vent mount, when using the phone during summer months, having that cool air blowing on the back nicely counteracts the sun. And my windshield is very steeply raked--the phone would be too far away to be readable at a glance.
OTOH, without being able to use a magnet, as far as I know that leaves the mounts that slide onto the vents and use the side-grips that you have to open and close around the phone. I used those only briefly because with the slim vents there was very little support and the phone/cradle constantly fell off. Even though the magnet mount is also slide-on, it's much less bulky and holds the phone much closer to the vent so the weight is near the fulcrum.
Qi charging would be nice, but I'm fine with using the Lightning port.
Any thoughts?
