Limit of 20000 files in iTunes

iTunes stopped syncing songs to iPhone after 20000 songs. Is it iTunes, iPhone, iCloud, match that is stopping me?

There are different limits that can apply.

The limit for how many tracks can be synced using iTunes Match and Apple Music was 25,000 and is now 100,000.

iTunes itself did used to have a relatively modest limit on the number of tracks but I can't find any current information on this although I am sure it is now much bigger and logically in view of the above would be at least 100,000 tracks. It is possible to use multiple iTunes libraries and switch between them at launch.

It should be noted that Sonos when accessing an iTunes library has it's own limit of 65,000 tracks.

Even with lossy tracks and even with bigger capacities on newer iPhone is it really practical to have more than 20,000 tracks on an iPhone? Apple would prefer you subscribe to Apple Music instead and then you simply stream from the entire 20million plus Apple catalog.
