Apple TV app won't boot on Fire TV Stick 4k... complains about Fire Stick software needing to be updated (but it is)

My Fire TV Stick 4K software is all up to date but the Apple TV app complains on boot that the Fire Stick software needs to be updated. I've tried all of the usual things such as uninstalling/reinstalling the app, resetting my Fire Stick to factory defaults, updating its software fully, and then installing the Apple TV app, etc. Nothing resolves the issue. It's almost as if the Apple TV app code isn't doing the Fire Stick software version check correctly or something. Any ideas to resolve? Anybody else seen this? I chatted with Amazon Fire Stick support but they were unable to figure out what was going wrong on their side.

The app is unhelpful and won’t tell you what you need to do, but luckily the fix is simple.

What you need to do is exit the TV app, open the Settings app, select Device -> About -> Software Version and then press the Check for System Update button. What you will probably find is there is a new update available; seemingly the Fire TV is very slow at notifying users about the need to update the operating system.

When the update is found, the Fire TV Stick will start downloading the newest OS firmware automatically. Once the download is complete, press “Install System Update” to update.

After updating to the latest OS version, you can then go back to the Apple TV app and sign in again. The login process should now complete successfully.

You can now use all the features of the Apple TV app. Unfortunately, the TV app on Amazon Fire TV does not support making purchases. You need to make purchases or subscribe to Channels on another device (like an iOS product or apple website and the content will unlock on the Amazon Fire TV. best way to fix Amazon Fire Stick Black Screen

As mentioned in my original post, my Fire Stick software is all up to date and reports as so when telling it to check for updates. Apple TV app still complains about Fire Stick not being up-to-date though.
