Apple Health is saying Apple Watch is not paired even though the watch shows a connection?

How do I make sure everything is linked correctly? My company tracks activity for reimbursement purposes through Apple Health and I want to make sure my watch is synced properly. I just got my watch yesterday and went through the registration steps but for some reason I’m seeing the alert attached in Apple health in the device section for my Apple Watch. Should my past activity in Apple health be visible in the Activity app for my watch or is that something that only starts to tracking once you start using the watch?

Thank you for your help!
