my wife and i both have the iPhone xr bought at the same time on her phone u can touch battery icon in top rt corner and larger state of charge will pop on the screen mine will not do it how come

You need to swipe down from the upper right corner to see the state of charge. Just touching it won’t work. Your wife’s phone probably works the same way.

I am, and it doesn’t work for me.
Doesn't do this on our iPhone 11, 11 Pro Max or two iPad Pro 11.
Yes swipe down, that is what it says in the link I sent but it seems they have a special phone which I was not aware of...LOL
