Has Apple fixed not being able to mute a phone call with the new AirPods Pro?

My current AirPods don't allow me to mute a phone call. I know crazy. I had to give them to my kid and buy a Jabra so I could use for phone calls. I was wondering if this had been fixed with the new AirPods Pro? I see you can customize what happens when you double tap the AirPods Pro but I wasn't sure what options you have.

Thanks for any insight.

Among some folks, the classic joke here is “reading the manual is admitting defeat”.

Reading the directions is sometimes part of a purchase, particularly with complex or new devices, and Apple itself has long a nasty habit of “obvious” controls that are sometimes “obvious” once you’ve figured them out. And sometimes other useful features that are less than obvious, and less than easily discoverable. Which means the manuals and support notes...

I do hope that Apple adds this simple mute functionality at some point.

Apple calls it “press the force sensor”. Everybody else seems to use “squeeze”.

Control audio with your AirPods Pro

  • To play and pause your audio content, press the force sensor on the stem of an AirPod. To resume playback, press again.
  • To skip forward, double-press the force sensor on the stem of an AirPod.
  • To skip back, triple-press the force sensor.

Wow. I'm a little surprised at the rudeness in this thread towards the OP. I was wondering the same question the OP. Just recently purchased and I want to use these on conference calls and I'd like to be able to mute calls from the AirPods themselves.

The information that others put here is about music controls and ignores the real question. But thanks for focusing on semantics such as tapping vs force touch vs squeezing. So helpful.

I do hope that Apple adds this simple mute functionality at some point.

Thank you, I did actually read that link previously. However, it didn't cover the double tap setup and I wasn't sure if the below that was for the original version of the AirPods was the same for the new AirPods Pro. Apparently tapping is no longer available on the Pro's, instead it is a "squeeze of the force sensor" and you can't customize them at all if I am understanding it correctly.

May I ask how others go about muting their phone calls? Does everyone pull out their cell phone to do so? I will research if you can mute via the Apple Watch. I was thinking about getting the Apple Watch so that would be a key benefit.

Select the same or a different double-tap shortcut (or the same one, if that's your preference).
