iPhone double notification for Facebook messages

Officially fixed the problem. I got the iPhone 11 Pro and noticed this immediately and boy was it annoying. You DO NOT want to follow the above GIF because that will just make it so you do not receive notifications at all. I fixed it by uninstalling messenger and reinstalling it. As soon as I did that it stopped sending the notification from Facebook and Messenger and now only receive messages from messenger. When you delete and reinstall you won’t lose anything either, it all comes back when you log back in. (I used to work for AppleCare ps)

I got this after switching phone, and i tried only reinstalling the messenger app, that didn’t solve the problem. Only got solved after I reinstalled both Facebook and messenger at the same time

I deleted the messenger app and reinstalled it and it fixed the problem!!

Having the same problem, uninstall and reinstall messenger’s app and it’s fixed !! Hope it will fix it for you too ;) ( and hope you will understand me ´cause I’m French )

Recently received the iPhone 12 and had this problem. Uninstalling messenger and reinstalling seems to have helped also.

I found a solution, don’t use the GIF it’s useless. What I did was delete the apps, both then install it again, Then delete messenger alone and install it and again. It worked, I am not getting double notifications anymore.

Having the exact same issue! It’s annoying me so much but the only way I’ve found to stop it is by turning off Facebook notifications completely on your phone settings

So initially the delete messenger and reinstall trick didn’t work for me. I think there was a bit of a delay but I don’t get duplicate notifications anymore and I’m guessing that was the trick.

Yes I only uninstalled messenger and it fixed it! So glad I found this discussion! The double notification drove me insane!

same is happening to me but deleting and reinstalling didn't work.

I use the Facebook Pages app to manage pages, I'm getting double notifications. and it's rather annoying.

Now they have merged the pages messages to the messenger app... which does not send any notification if there's a message, I'm getting nothing.

I did that as well, still didn't work. Your business pages now come thru messenger, however won't notify of a message..... so have to use the Pages app, and each message gives a duplicate notification from pages, it's annoying

I’m having the same issue, it’s started from no where on the same phone I’ve always had.

I have deleted both Facebook and messenger. And I’m still getting the same thing.

what else can I do with out turning off al notifications

I have the exact same problem. I can’t seem to turn it off, and it annoys me like crazy. I only want the notification from messenger, but not facebook.
