adapter

I bought a MacBook Air via Apple online store last week, but I recognized that its adapter doesn't work. I think there is a manufacturing defect with it. Do I have to return the laptop and its adapter to Apple in order to solve the problem, as I am in 14 days to return? Or is there any other option to change the adapter? What is the best option for you? Thank you!
