Hi,

Resetting NVRAM could solve the sound issue.

A Few Thoughts:

  • Disconnect Hardwired Devices:

Anything plugged into the headphone jack? If so, disconnect it.

  • Disable Bluetooth:

Perhaps it is synchronizing with something that is muted.

  • Any Speakers Even Seen?:

Go To: Finder Menu > About this Mac... > System Report > Sound and see if anything shows up for speakers or the like.

  • Restart your Mac:

Perhaps an update was installed, and it needs to all resynchronize. So, restart your Mac, and see if that makes all the difference.

Unmute the Mac and Applications:

Unmute the application(s) you are running, and increate up the volume of your Mac. If you have any third party applications installed that have audio maintenance, increase the volume, and then quit those programs.

Boot into Safe Mode:

Next, start in Safe Mode (Shut Down your Mac > Hold Down the Shift key upon boot). See if the results are the same. If not, it is something configured in your current user.

Create a New Administrator:

See if anything is different in the newly-created administrator. If so, it is something configured in your currently, logged-in administrator user.

I followed the directions below to turn my sound back on. It didn't work. What's next?

Manage your Volume Using Terminal:

Maximize the volume output by using this Terminal Command:

sudo osascript -e "set Volume 10"

Open Terminal:

Go To Applications > Utilities > Terminal

sudo:

Once you enter the command, enter the administrator's password. In Terminal, "sudo" refers to the "Super User", otherwise known as the Administrator.
