Why do random things in my mac suddenly have an icloud download icon(and need to be re-downloaded to be opened) without any interactions with said items?

Hello, after since I've updated my mac to the latest softwares about 2-3 months ago I started to notice that items/things would suddenly and randomly have the icloudrive download icons beside them without any interaction with them. Im not sure wether this is a software feature but it has been happening often lately. My current macOS is Catalina and Im paranoid and scared that my icloud drive could have been hacked and that the icloud download icons mean that someone is downloading my files onto their device. I have not received any notification of any attempts to login my accounts and logins from places I have not been to, and I have two factor authorisation using my phone.

So is this a software feature or is my account jeopardised?

Take a good look at your settings.

You almost certainly elected to "Optimise Mac Storage".

That is an option that will allow files to be saved only in icloud if disk space on your mac is low.

Go to System Preferences, click the Apple Id icon at the top:

Take a look at this box marked below. If it is checked, then you are allowing stuff to be kept on icloud only, if necessary. If you are sure you have enough free space, you can uncheck this box.

Thank you for the help. Sorry for being extremely paranoid and asking such a stupid question, however starting this week I have noticed an actual problem.

Everytime I use my macbook there would be black lines at the bottom of my screen that becomes taller and more visible alongside have more visible glitches in those lines as I use my laptop longer. I have tried shutting my computer down and restarting it however it solves the problem temporarily. After 10 minutes of use the lines become bigger and more visible, the worst I've seen was after a day of use I noticed the bottom of my screen would be "glitching out" to the point numbers or words with a glitched white background would appear. After taking a screenshot to see wether the black lines are able to be photoed, it did not appear in the screenshot so I suspect it is a hardware problem. Over the last few days I have been using my mac more for heavy duty editing and keeping many apps opened.

Is there a way to fix this problem individually? Or is the only option to get it checked by apple?
