I can t connect ipad pro to lg 5 k monitor

To get your iPad Pro to output video to your LG UltraFine 5K you need to use the USB-C cable that came with your UltraFine 5K (not the Thunderbolt 3 cable). The 2019 LG UltraFine 5K comes with a Thunderbolt 3 cable (for MacBook Pro) and a USB-C cable for (for MacBook and iPad Pro). The Thunderbolt 3 cable has a white lightning bolt on it and the USB-C cable does not.

Do not use the USB-C Charge Cable that came with your iPad Pro. As the name suggests, it will only charge your iPad Pro and will not output video.

If you lost the USB-C cable that came with the UltraFine 5K you need to buy a USB-C cable that outputs video, such as the Anker PowerLine II USB-C to USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable. The Wirecutter has a great guide on what USB-C cables can output video and which can’t.

The iPad Pro can only output video to the 2019 LG UltraFine 5K. The previous generation LG UltraFine 5K will not work with an iPad Pro.

Please note that only the 2019 UltraFine 5K (Model 27MD5KL-B) works with the iPad Pro. The 2016 UltraFine 5K only supported Thunderbolt 3 input while the 2019 UltraFine 5K supports both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C input.

Thunderbolt is not the same as USB-C. While it shares the same socket, it is an entirely different technology. No iPad model supports Thunderbolt. You will need to use a USB-C cable to connect your iPad to your LG display.

Use the original cable that came with your iPad Pro. There are no Apple employees in this forum, only users of Apple products. Go to Apple Store for your issues.

That should have been an indication that you cannot use a Thunderbolt cable on an iPad.

I have the same problem. I've been trying to connect to the 27MD5KL and cannot. No cable works. MacBook Pro works immediately but I cannot get any of our iPads of Surface pro onto the LG 5K screen. Apple support couldn't fix it either!

What are you using to connect the iPad Pro to the LG monitor?
