iPad Pro m2 stage manager to external monitor

I’m having difficulty connecting my new iPad Pro M2 to an external monitor to use stage manager. My external monitor is mirroring my iPad instead of being an additional work space to move windows into. I’m using an Anker 6-1 hub to connect the HDMI to HDMI cable from the monitor to the iPad Pro. Any idea why I’m only mirroring the content?

Ensure that you have updated your iPad to iPadOS 16.2 - as this version introduces full Stage Manager support for external monitors.

iPadOS 16.1/16.1.1 limited Stage Manager support for external monitors to screen mirroring only.

Same issue. iPad Pro 11” 4th gen M2. So when I plug it with an Anker HDMI to usbc adapter everything is working fine, I just bought a 7in1 adapter and it wont work, so I only get screen mirroring and not the option for arrangement so I’m guessing the issue is with the adapter. Also have docking station which will charge it and allow me to use the wireless keyboard and mouse but no display. Guess I’m going to try a few different adapter and see which ones works.

Assuming that you have updated your iPad to iPadOS 16.2 - and your iPad supports Stage Manager - to see the arrangement page you just need to tap the corresponding display (Dell E228WFP as shown above).

Stage Manager is available for these models of iPad:

  • iPad Air (5th generation)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (all generations)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)

Feature availability is usually limited by system hardware - CPU and available RAM being critical to some advanced functionality. Models supporting Stage Manager have an M2, M1 or A12X CPU (upon which the M-series CPUs are reportedly based) - with at least 8GB RAM.

I get this same problem as well but it’s intermittent. I never know how stage manger is going to behave. Sometimes I get to the office and plug my ipad into my USB hub and I get screen extension. Other times, I get screen mirroring. I’ve chalked it up to buggy iOS. I have the same problem with Airplay 2. After a while, it just stops wanting to connect correctly.

Annoying. All I can suggest is to reboot the iPad and try again. Turn on monitor first. Then plug in USB hub.

Sorry, I should have included the iPad I am using. I have the iPad Pro 11” 4th generation with M2 chip and have updated iPadOS to 16.2. I am also using an HP docking station (HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W with HDMI Adapter) with USB C connected to my iPad.

Unfortunately, even when I click into the Dell monitor, there aren’t any options to toggle “Mirror Display” on/off.

Interested to see how this thread develops. Recently bought and M2 iPad Pro and a 40WP95C-W 5K2K to run it on, have to say I’m quite underwhelmed.

Most apps seem to be ok (some I’m having major issues with, particularly Citrix workspace) but having this great screen is pointless as I’m unable to do anything with the scaling so the apps and font are waaaaaaay to large to make good use of it.

Don’t know if its a monitor issue or what, but the model is fairly new so I’d would hope it wouldn’t be (plus scaling is fine on the wife’s M1 MacBook Pro.

Running Thunderbolt between the IPad and the Monitor results in the screen being stretched so currently using USB-C to Display Port which works better.

In display and Brightness it only recognises the screen as an LG Ultrawide rather than the actual model I’ve seen for some monitors and when selecting the screen I can only adjust the HDR & SDR toggles and ‘Allow display mode changes’.

Other sites suggest there should be a zoom / scaling control but I’m not seeing it.

Some apps like Excel can be scaled ‘in app’ but that just gets more columns and rows in the window, the ribbon stays the same size so you end up with a huge piece of screen taken up just to fit the ribbon on.

would post a pic but they keep loading upside down 🤷🏻‍♂️

At this rate I’ll be back to an Macbook or Surface Pro and this ‘latest and greatest’ iPad will simply be another device to browse the web and let the kids watch cartoons on.
