Noise on 16-inch Macbook pro speaker when I’m using logic pro x

Noise on 16’ Macbook speaker

I’m using MacBook pro 16 , 2019.

From the first time i’m using logic pro X on my Mac, there is odd noise everytime i play music. This noise appears randomly and disappears without any intervention.

Once this problem occurs, i can hear the noise on system sound , youtube and other apps in addition to logic pro x

If i use external audio device like earphone, this noise disappears right away

Here is the link of the video the odd noise is recorded in

Is there any MacBook user who has same problem?

What is the solution of this problem?

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

What worked for me - How to determine if its a bad plugin

Before I get into the instructions it is important to think about when you started experiencing the audio issue and if you have recently installed any new audio devices, virtual instruments, or anything with plugins. This will help you narrow down the issue and this is how I quickly found the plugin causing the issue even though I had ones that failed validation they were not the ones that were the issue, but they could have been. It was a newer plugin that was "successfully validated" from the moment I went into the Plug-Ins Manager. It is important to note Apple's Logic Pro support told me that a Plugin in Logic Pro can cause systemwide issues even if it is disabled.

  • Close All Apps
  • Open a Finder window.
  • Select Go from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  • Hold down the Option key to reveal the Library folder option in the dropdown menu and click on it
  • Navigate to Audio\Plug-Ins\
  • Copy the Components folder to your desktop
  • Delete the Components folder in the \Library\Audio\Plugins directory
  • Launch Logic Pro and try to use one of the built in Apple sounds. The sound issue should be gone, providing it is go to the next step. If it is not gone then you will need to contact Apple Support.
  • Close Logic Pro and keep it closed until instructed to reopen it
  • Make a Folder on the Desktop named "Troubleshooting Plugins" and continue with one of the three sets of instructions in bold depending on what applies to your situation

If you have recently installed a new plug in, audio device, etc then do the following:

  • Copy the Components folder back to the Plugins directory.
  • Start with the most recent plug in you have installed and remove it from the Components folder and place it in the "Troubleshooting Plugins" folder on your desktop. In my case I had just installed ROLI Studio which was "successfully validated"
  • Launch Logic Pro
  • Test the audio again using any of the sounds you have in Logic, if there are no sound issues and the problem has been resolved then you will need to contact that Plugins manufacturer for an updated plugin.

If you have NOT recently installed a new plug in, audio device, etc BUT you have plugins listed as "crashed validation" then do the following:

  • Copy the Components folder back to the Plugins directory.
  • In the Components folder in the Plug-Ins directory look for the plugins that were listed as "Crashed Validation" and remove only one of them from the Components folder and place it in the "Troubleshooting Plugins" folder on your desktop.
  • Launch Logic Pro
  • Test the audio again using any of the sounds you have in Logic, if there are no sound issues and the problem has been resolved then you will need to contact that Plugins manufacturer for an updated plugin.
  • If the issue has not been resolved Close Logic, select the next Plugin that "Crashed Validation" in the list of plugins in the Components folder and remove it from that folder and place it in the "Troubleshooting Plugins" folder then relaunch Logic Pro. Keep repeating this process until you have removed each one of the plugins that "Crashed Validation" if it is still not working continue on with the next set of instructions

If you have NOT recently installed a new plug in, audio device, etc and you have NONE that say "crashed validation" or you have already eliminated all of those from the Components folder then do the following:

  • Go into the Components folder in the \Library\Audio\Plugin\Components folder and sort the files by date created or date modified (if you want to troubleshoot chronologically in order from most recent installed to oldest installed plugin. Otherwise you can sort by name
  • Start with the first one in the list of files in the Components folder and place it in the "Troubleshooting Plugins" Folder
  • Launch Logic Pro
  • Test the audio again using any of the sounds you have in Logic, if there are no sound issues and the problem has been resolved then you will need to contact that Plugins manufacturer for an updated plugin. If the problem persists continue removing plugins one by one from the Components folder and then launching and testing in Logic Pro. Eventually you will find after removing a particular plugin that the issue stops. Once the issue stops you have successfully identified the troublesome plugin and will need to contact the maker of the plugin. You can then restore the other plugins from the Troubleshooting Plugins folder to the Components folder. If you find the problem reappears then you may have more than one plugin causing issues you can then go back through the same steps as outlined above to repeat the process of finding a bad plugin.

I've tried every fix mentioned here without success, and have been using Macs since the lady threw the hammer at Big Brother during the Super Bowl back in 1984, so am pretty good at troubleshooting...but still no luck. Incredibly disappointing at a tough time for all musicians :-(.

Here's what I'm getting...same as many of you...

Often the problem with monitoring with speakers and y

using an extender where you MacbookPro and GSM adapter for example are plugt in. There will be a ground loop noise you can prevent to put your laptop in is own power socket and other equipment to other power sources so not all in one.

If you divide the power sources, and yousing good cables(not cheep ones) you will ensure your signal is not effected by outside signals eo.

I haven't seen the problem since. However, do be aware that older projects that have audio files imported at 44,100 will have a pitch shift when you convert the project to 48,000. I'm hoping there is a way around this without importing the audio files all over again. I haven't investigated further, so do not know if there is a solution or not.

I had this annoying sound issue from the first time I started Logic X pro on the new Macbook Pro 16".

After all these updates to Catalina there still is only one functional workaround for this bug.

Put some headphones on, let the output source switch to the headphones and then remove the headphones again, switching back to internal audio. It's not for very long but at least for a while, before the popping sound is coming back.

I bought the laptop in march 2020. I will wait for future updates, including Mac OS Big Sur.

If there will be no fix until the end of january 2021, I certainly try to give this laptop back for either a working one or a refund.

I must say it's relief to have found this thread, and to see that it's still active months after.

I bought the 16" in February, and figured it was a bug/something wrong my browser (Firefox) when listening to music, or perhaps the DAW (FL Studio). After doing some research, I learned it wasn't just me and the issue is widespread. I sent it in for repair three times, with no change. Finally, I received a replacement (they sent the wrong color, but also sent the correct one under Express Replacement) and I am currently testing the two attempting to reproduce the issue; so far, on the Silver it already happened within the first two hours of use (purchased one was Silver as well), yet it hasn't happened on the Space Gray. At first I thought this is an issue with every unit, but perhaps that isn't the case. I'll try and post again with more information.

Also, a comment on the topic of 'use an interface/headphones', some of us like to produce somewhere other than our dedicated space, and for simple composition the speakers are more than enough. But, it's inexcusable for this to happen on such an expensive machine, and to make matters worse there hasn't been a proper acknowledgement from Apple.

Minutes after I install my DAW on the Space Gray, the issue starts happening (of course I'm not saying color has anything to do with it). Someone mentioned it earlier, but the Audio MIDI Setup format changes to 44.1kHz from 48.1kHz, which worsens it somehow, although it still occurs but less frequently on the former, in my experience. Additionally, it's easily heard when playing a 20Hz to 20kHz sweep, especially in the low frequencies which the speakers can't reproduce, and that makes sense to me as it happens most often when dealing with drum/bass elements.

They already replaced mine, and I was told they won’t replace it again as it’s a software related issue. I would rather they outright tell us this issue is unfixable and to deal with it, rather than leave us in the dark. Who knows, maybe in a year or so they’ll offer replacements for the newer line with ARM processors, but only time will tell if those even live up to the hype.

Not sure about others, but for me it's the fact that my whole information eco-system-- for want of a better term-- is Apple based. There is no other machine that is a realistic portable solution for all of my media work and client stuff using Final Cut as well as Logic, that plays nice with my iPhone/iPad/Mac, etc. without masses of re-jiggering. I spent many years in the 90's and 2000's with Windows trogladytes spouting the whole "REAL companies use Windows" nonsense-- and I see how Windows is still less than ideal for most of the work I do. Don't want to go back there. And I say this as someone who sold a former company of mine to Microsoft...

Also, to be blunt, it's my belief that Apple can and should have sorted this out already-- ie, "What Would Steve Have Done?" Simply dumping the machine back on them makes it seem like it's ok. They sold it with the promise, backed up by a host of entertainment industry talking heads with cool haircuts and Apple Sponsorships, that this was the be-all-and-end-all Media Machine. Well, it's time for Apple to prove it.

  1. what an insanely huge problem to not get an official response from apple on. Coupled with the gpu meltdowns and overheating this will definitely be my last apple product.
  2. I think there are multiple issues here leading to confusion. Some people here are describing a clicking or clipping sound as if the volume is maxed out, that is not at all what I'm experiencing. What I am experiencing is as others have mentioned here, a low pitched 'horse galloping' sound. It alternates between both speakers and is solved by changing the speaker 'format' from 44 to 48khz (I work in audio and I'm still not sure why they call this 'format' or what all they're changing here). This is a mind-blowingly problem to encounter, imagine buying a computer and the screen just randomly flashed. I want to hear from someone official in these forums. They have a responsibility to their customers

Too all with the speaker failure issue. I bought my MacBook Pro 16" a month ago. I'm not sure if I'm using the same dev account, but on the first Big Sur beta, it was giving me an issue. It remains the same with all beta's so far. The current beta (beta 10) is still giving me that issue, but it seems to be less frequent. I use safari to play Sirius XM radio and listening to sports channel seems to activate the the speaker problem we're having a lot more than any other source I've been using. I just now use my iPad or HomePods to play the sounds I need to hear, it's that annoying.
