Keynote won't update via AppStore, how to download?

I'm running OS 10.13.6, and Keynote 8.3. It refuses to open Keynote files made on my laptop (in Keynote 9.1) saying I need a new version. But when I click "update" in App store, nothing happens - the little gray wheel spins for a while and no update. Is there any place I can get a valid installer for Keynote 9.1?

Bingo! Simply copying the Keynote 9.1 app from my laptop to the desktop did it. Can't believe I didn't think of this before. Thanks!

You must have macOS Mojave, or Catalina installed before you can download Keynote v9.2.1 from the Mac App Store. You are as far as you can go with Keynote on High Sierra.

In the menu : About this Mac, what is the entire Mac description line including the parenthesis? The Pages, Numbers, and Keynote documents have restrictions in them regarding the oldest version of the software that can open them, as well as older, unsupported Mac hardware that is excluded.

For Keynote 9 — 9.2.1, the oldest version of Keynote would be 6.6, and the 2008 (MacPro3,1) through 2012 (MacPro5,1) are excluded hardware for Keynote v9 documents.

I want 9.1, but I have 8.3 (and 9.1 on my laptop, which is how I know that I can make Keynote files not playable on my Desktop).

The last two options to get Keynote v9.1 on your MacPro with High Sierra:

  1. If same Apple ID on MacPro as on MacBook, then copy Keynote v9.1 onto USB stick and transfer from MacBook to MacPro applications folder.
  2. On the MacPro, press the option key with the Purchases tab on the Mac App Store, and look for the Keynote entry. If install/update appear, see if it will refuse v9.2.1, but then ask you if you want to update to v9.1 ( last for High Sierra). This is a maybe proposition as it works for some and not for others.

Apple simply does not maintain past full installers of applications for user download and installation.
