Are photos deleted by Photo Stream if you store all photos in iCloud?

I recently started an iCloud account 2TB. I had all my photos from MAC uploaded to iCloud. Previously when I took photos on iPhone, they would go to Photo Stream and apparently were automatically deleted (unless saved) after 30 days. Now, since I have iCloud storage, are these photos still deleted or automatically stored in cloud? Do I still have to go to Photo Stream and physically save desired photos to keep them?
