Voice Mail 'Sound' notification alert! (with 'regular Voice Mail' - not VISUAL VM)) - Anyone else??

Anyone else experiencing this with 'regular Voice Mail' (not VISUAL VM)?

3-4 months ago, I worked with Apple escalations over days to try to fix my VM sound alert issue, which became an issue after the IOS 13 update on iPhone 7 plus. We reset the phone to factory and tested, lots of troubleshooting, sound notification changes, testing the sounds, screen prints etc. so they could work with their engineers to resolve.

Although a nice experience working with Apple escalation to fix it, there still is no resolution.

This was the final step I took with my carrier who Apple engineers had said the issue lies with. (SEE BELOW)

I repeat, the issue is with 'Regular VM' and not 'Visual VM'. Sound notification.

I spoke to my carrier and after they reset my Voice Mail, it still did not work (sound notification).

She suggested that I get a hold of another iPhone (from the same carrier) and pop my SIM card in there to see if it works on that phone. I had my old iPhone 5s and did so (same carrier).

Voice sound notification worked perfectly!!

iPhone software on the 5s phone is 12.4.4. (I got my sound notification right away).

The agent explained about how it works from their end. Agent said that the apple software is not translating this notification to a sound. She said that their system when a VM is left, sends a text to produce the visual icon notification to show (red dot). She said the apple software is suppose to convert that to a sound which isn’t happening in 13.3

The last Apple software update still has not fixed this issue.

I don't need to pay more money to my carrier to get Visual VM in order to fix the Regular VM issue.

Please note the following

  1. The difference:
    1. Visual Voicemail converts sound to text and delivers text messages directly to your handset, so you can view your voicemail messages anytime, anywhere. Visual Voicemail allows you to simply read a transcription of the voicemail sent to you.
    2. Regular Voice Mail (not Visual): Requires one to dial into complicated and stretching voicemail menus (Depends on the operator) in order to listen to your VM messages. There is no transcription of VM even if the carrier support Visual VM. Please select correct and suitable plan based on your need.
  2. The responsibility of Visual Voicemail or Regular Voice Mail lies with the Carrier (the agency who issues the SIM / e-SIM to you)
  3. For VM to work
    1. Visual VoiceMail --> If your carrier supports Visual Voicemail, you can set it up. If you can't set up Visual Voicemail, contact your carrier to make sure that your plan supports the feature.
    2. Regular VoiceMail --> Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) The agency who issued the SIM to you, if they have Regular VoiceMail
  4. You wrote: "She said the apple software is suppose to convert that to a sound ", this is contrary to what Visual VM does. Visual VoiceMail transcribes Sound to Text.

I may not have been clear...

The issue is with me getting my little 'beep sound' to alert me that I got a new VM and to check for a new message.

eg. phone is on the table, sound goes off, which alerts me to go check my phone to see who left me a message.

I am not being 'sound alerted', which all worked pre-IOS 13 update.

The only time I know I have a VM is when I go press my 'phone icon' where I can see a 'red dot' on the 'recorder icon' to indicate that I have a new message waiting for me. Dialling in and retrieving still works too.

So, to test to see if a SIM/carrier issue or an IOS/Apple issue, I tried my SIM on another same carrier iPhone, IOS 12.4.4. All worked normally on this other iPhone. I got my 'sound alert'.

The only conclusion that I can make is that Apple quit supporting Regular VM 'sound alert' and is only supporting Visual VM. If that isn't the case, they need to look into this and fix it. eg. red dot and message waiting = sound alert

Couldn't edit so adding a bit more....

From this final test, it seems to be an Apple software issue, whereby, the message is delivered successfully to the iPhone by the carrier, but the IOS is not translating that 'red dot' indicator to a 'sound alert'.

ie. I get a VM, I get the 'red dot indicator' (which IOS seems to be recognizing that I got a VM), but that is where it stops...

I NO LONGER GET the SOUND ALERT (no matter what sound Apple person had me test)

How can it be a carrier issue when I am getting my messages from the carrier to my phone, and IOS shows me the red dot indicator alert as I did before with Regular VM?
