How to connect two Mac Minis to one monitor?

Hi,

I just bought a new Mac Mini. Now I'm trying to transfer the data of my old Mac to my new Mac with Migration Assistant. However, I only have one monitor. How can I connect both Macs to this monitor because I can hardly transfer data while not seeing anything, or can I?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Not possible to connect two mini's to one monitor, however, you can connect another monitor to the mini. So, you would need two monitors (1 for the old and 1 for the new) to complete migration.

Or, you can try Time Machine backup which is usually a lot quicker. Just will need an external drive.

Another option might be Target Disk mode.

If you have two Mac computers with FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, you can connect them so that one of them appears as an external hard disk on the other. This is called target disk mode.

Start the old Mac in target disk mode (reboot holding the T key. You probably won't even need a monitor for that, but if you do, then disconnect the monitor from the old and connect it to the new and continue with your file transfers from the old Mac.
