Safari private browser button grayed out?

When I try to open a Safari private browsing window, the option is grayed out. Screen time is off, content restrictions are off, I am a part of family screen time, but all content restrictions are off for that as well, and I am an adult. Picture attached for reference

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, riyakataria!

I understand you're not able to open a private window. I'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Check to see if you're able to open a window in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If you're able to open a private window there, restart and check to see if it works correctly.

Let us know the results.

Have a great day!
