Can't install Java for macOS 2017-001 because 'a newer version is already installed'

So i updated my MacOS a while ago and now can no longer access my spss package. I tried to open it and it said i needed to download and install legacy Java SE 6 runtime which I have done. On trying to install it, I got the error saying I cannot install Java for macOS 2017-001 because 'a newer version is already installed' I have googled the error and no one has been able to help me with my problem. I tried uninstalling previous versions of java but couldn't even find any. Please help me, this is vital for my work.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

Open System Preferences at the bottom of the panel do you have a Java Preference, if so you have Java installed.

Go to Oracle for instructions on how to uninstall Java from your mac.

Restart your mac and then see if you can install the Java SE 6 runtime.

Once you have that installed, you can then probably reinstall Java

if you feel you need it.
