Total Disappointment MBP 16" Catalina 10.15.3

I've found my computer completely battery-drained after closing the lid and returning a day later. I need to plug the cord and then wait like 5+ minutes in order for it to react. Like an iPad. Then it restart from scratch, closing everything that's ongoing on my work flow.

This issue doesn't even happen in my old 2015 model. If I close the lid of my old MBP with 10% and if I return a week later it has the same battery level.

Of course I have the same configurations in the 2015 one on this new 2020 one. I've lost a lot of ongoing work due to this issue, I've made a $4,000.00 mistake by getting the new Mac. The only thing not disappointing is the sound of the speakers.

If you gonna recommend to Reset my SMC and NVRAM, forget it. I have reseted both things innumerable times by now to solve other issues like keyboardlagging, or screen ghosting, or speakers making a very annoying "blop" sound, etc.

If you gonna recommend to go into my Energy Saver configurations and uncheck the Enable Power Nap, it's done.

Or to disable the Bluetooth while sleeping, also done.

Notifications are off while sleeping or locked.

Yes, everything is up to date.

I have the automatic graphic switching checked.

I don't use DropBox

Can someone help me?

Hi XandMan70,

The only thing I hadn't done was to disable Siri, I did but it doesn't work. I lost all my work again, now I got a report message:

And look, even with Siri off, Bluetooth off, look what the terminal says, I took a screenshot at the hours where the lid was closed and many activities are reported, look:

You know, I don't have any antivirus software, maybe I've got infected.

I've found the culprits.. but now I don't know how to stop them consuming my battery.

All this activity while I was sleep. This is consuming the battery. Funny things is my bluetooth is off plus I have the "allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" unchecked. HELP ME!!!

From 2am to 7am the lid was closed.

HELP ME!!!

Mar 11, 2020 10:30 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alder

I also returned my first MBP 16 inch because it didn't sit flat from the unboxing.

They also told me that no one has experienced that or report a similar issue.

But the **** thing was bent, I even made a video for the genius bar to show how it behaves like those annoying tables at restaurants where the table doesn't sit flat on the ground. They told me at the store that they've never seen a 16MPB doing this, like it was an old product. This was back in December, just a month later of its release.

This battery drainage thing is happening, regardless the fact that you have read it from someone else or not.

I used (log show --style syslog | fgrep "Wake reason") command in the terminal:

around the time the lid was closed from 2am to 6am

Readers here are other Users like you. Apple support does not troll the forums looking for problems. You asked for help, and several senior contributors told you there are no known solutions for problems like the ones you described or that you have a "sample defect" -- a problem that occurs in only your computer and is not pervasive across all samples of this model..

Please contact Apple Support.

They get a paycheck for helping you track down unusual problems, or file a bug report for Engineering to look into them.

well mine does drain, about 5% from a 100% charge when unplugged and lid close. around 8hrs.

these are the culprits:

(AppleACPIPlatform) AppleACPIPlatformPower Wake reason: EC.SleepTimer (HibernateError)

(AppleTopCaseHIDEventDriver) [HID] [ATC] AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)

(AppleIntelCFLGraphicsFramebuffer) [IGFB][INFO   ] FB0 power state transition Sleep to Doze

(IOBluetooth) [com.apple.bluetooth:CBPower] PMConnectionHandler - Dark Wake IOPMSystemPowerStateCapabilities - Sleep

Hello there,

From what I can see, these process are mostly Apple OS X processes.

Seems that your "setup" or settings have invoked these processes to wake your machine.

(Remember, a closed lid doesn't necessarily mean your machine is off, is more like sleeping, and it will wake when invoked)

So either you can enable, Airplane Mode (disable all radios (Wifi, Bluetooth etc)), disable Siri, and shutdown apps/programs you are working on.

Especially web browser pages.

Otherwise all of these things can and will trigger your machine to wake, and it will connect to the internet, refresh from a web browser page (especially ads on a webpage), or syncing files, or save a file, and all of that will consume power.

If you don't want to mess with your settings, you could simply opt to "shut down" your machine at night.

If your battery drops considerably when the machine is shutdown and not connected to power, then, certainly you have a bad battery, otherwise, from what I can see in this log, its normal activity of a machine that's awake/on, and Siri is listening.

You can also take your machine in to Apple and they can check the actual performance of your battery. If its below the specs and your within your warranty period, they will change it out for you.

Hope this helps you out.
