Creating an Apple ID with an email address that was associated with a deleted Apple ID

I deleted my Apple ID. Now I am trying to create a new one using the gmail address that was associated with the deleted account. I get an error that says 'This email address is not available. Choose a different address.' when I try to create the account. Does anyone know if this means that I am now forever blocked from using my gmail as an Apple ID?

There have been posts by people who have contacted Apple Support and they were told that if you delete an ID associated with an email address, you can never reuse the email address for an Apple ID. You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID.

I think that you got your answer when Apple stated that your gmail address is not available to use in creating a new Apple ID.

I doubt that will magically change waiting a bit longer.
